About Humboldt National Forest

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest stretches over Nevada and the far eastern edge of California.

With a spectacular 6.3 million hectares, it is the largest forest in the 48 US states. H - T is located in Nevada and a small part of Eastern California and offers all kinds of recreation all year round.

Named after the eastern Humoldte Mountains and the HUMOLDt River, named for its location at the confluence of the Sierra Nevada River and its tributary the Humber River.

With a total of 18 wilderness areas, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is the largest of the 48 substates. With 6.3 million hectares, it is also the largest forest in all the lower 48 states, covering an area of 1.5 million hectares.

The Humboldt-Toiyabe wilderness is as diverse as the forest itself, and about 15 percent of it is designated as wilderness. The forest covers 6 million hectares and manages more than 900,000 hectares of wilderness, with a total area of 1.5 million hectares in the wilderness area.

It stretches from the eastern Sierra Nevada in California to the border of Idaho, Utah and Arizona and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and the California Department of Natural Resources. For more information about wilderness in urban areas like Reno and Las Vegas, click on the map.

Whether you like the heat of the desert or the coolness of the mountains, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offers a variety of places to enjoy a camping and picnic experience. A wide range of developed campsites, campsites, picnic areas and hiking trails allows you to make the most of your experience by choosing the option that best suits your lifestyle.

Peace, solitude and adventure are the benefits of staying at an undeveloped campsite, and camping around allows you to escape from everyday life.

The campsites have designated facilities such as fireplaces, showers, toilets and showers. If there is no plant, you must bring your own water and dig at least six centimetres deep into the ground. Most developed campsites have an operator who lives on site during the season and takes care of the site.

Day and group areas are usually located on developed campsites and are used for picnics, but maintenance is subject to a charge. Part of the collected fees will be used for the maintenance and improvement of the campsite. The fees are usually dependent on the facilities and are usually charged at each location.
