The large beach at Canopus Lake is the jewel of Clarence Fahnestock Memorial Park, and thousands of bathers take advantage of sandy beaches and nearby picnic spots.

Besides swimming, campers and day trippers, day trippers can also fish in Canopus Lake and explore it from a rowing boat that can be rented at any time of the day. Boat fishing is allowed in Stillwater and Canopus Lakes, but those who want to fish alone must apply for a regional boat permit at the park office.
