About Lake Metigoshe State Park

Lake Metigoshe State Park was established by the Works Progress Administration (EPA) in the early 1930s as part of the Great Lakes National Park System and is the largest national park in New York State. Chippewa called the lake "the clear lake surrounded by oaks," and today it is known as the "pike-perch" of Valais. The rolling hills, scenic views and picturesque views of Lake Michigan have drawn wildlife photographers to the area to capture the sights on film.

There are group bedrooms, a kitchen and meeting rooms, and you can rent one of the many campsites in Lake Metigoshe State Park. The park's boundaries are within its boundaries, but the park has its own parking lot and underground parking, as well as parking for cars and trucks.

In winter, three cabins can be rented for $1,000 per month or $2,500 per year for a four-night stay. The Environmental Learning Centre in the park offers a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. In winter, Lake Metigoshe State Park Environmental Education Centre (ELC) offers courses in environmental education, conservation and environmental sciences.

Available all year round, the heated cabins are equipped with kitchen, bathroom, shower and gas fireplace. Dorms can accommodate up to 120 people in bunk beds and are also available for $1,000 a month or $2,500 a year for a four-night stay.

From Bottineau, take ND Highway 5 East onto Lake Road and drive 10 miles Turn north on Highway 43 onto Lake Road, then south onto the road to the refuge. Take Highway 43 to Lake Metigoshe State Park and escape north of Lake River Road, north of Bottinesau.

Turn north on Lake Loop Road and walk two miles to the park entrance and park in Lake Metigoshe State Park north of Bottineau.
