About West Branch State Park

West Branch State Park is a popular spot for fishermen, boaters and swimmers and hosts some of the state's most scenic views. The meadows and forests within the park provide a great backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, camping or even swimming.

West Branch State Park is located on a glaciated plateau in northeast Ohio and lies at the foot of a huge block of ice that has broken off from a glacier. The water in the lake was formed from the melting block and filled with sediment, leaving a marshy wetland with a unique plant collection.

Because the land was elevated before the Appalachian Mountains were built, the glacier was able to overcome the plateau's rolling hills.

The natural features of the park are beech and maple forests, and the area around the western arm is rich in bogs filled with a variety of plants and animals, as well as a large number of wild flowers. The maple belt in Ohio is very broad and contradicts the Pioneer Trail, which stretches from the plateau near Mansfield, Pennsylvania, to the Pennsylvania plateau.

The forest is home to a variety of plants and animals, and red foxes, skunks, possums and raccoons find the habitat in the park suitable. Song birds populate the canopy of the forest, while waterfowl grope around the reservoir. The former England captain has been linked with a move to the Premier League but is currently on loan at Manchester United.

West Branch State Park is located on the banks of the Mahone River, a river named after the Indian word Mahonink, meaning salt licking. The salt, which attracts a large number of wildlife, was harvested by the Indians and early settlers, and the salt pans were located in what is now Warren.

The western end of the park is bordered by a crossroads called Campbell Sports, named after Captain John Campbell, who sent the militia to the battlefield in 1812 and then marched to Cleveland. Captain Campbell also served as sheriff of Portage County from 1810 to 1813 and came to the area during the American Civil War as part of his campaign against the Indians.

In 1965, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed the construction of the Michael J. Kirwan Reservoir. The reservoir was developed as part of Portage County's water management plan for West Branch State Park. Around 1810, a building was built that is considered to be the original home of Captain Campbell and his wife. After the dam was flooded, the building was transferred to the Historical Society of Portage County, where it was preserved and restored.

West Branch State Park was officially opened in 1966 and has 103 campsites in sunny, shady locations, either by the lake, in the creek or along the coast. Group camps are available for organisations up to 50 people, but all places are located within a lake with boat access - on top, so group camps are available for any organisation from 50 people.

The 2,650-hectare lake stretches over seven miles and has two branches and bays totalling 5,000 feet and is designed for unlimited horsepower. Boat and swimming areas are available, as well as picnic areas, picnic tables, changing rooms and a swimming pool. The 1.5 km long and 1500 feet wide shore of the lake includes a small stream, a creek bed, an outdoor swimming pool and a fishing spot.

Four launch pads provide access to the lake, and boat rentals and fuel supplies are available in the marina. Boat rental, fuel and supplies are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer months.

The docks are rented seasonally and the zone extends 300 feet from shore to shore during the watch period. There is also an exclusion zone, but the exclusion zones are also open for fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing and other activities.

There are 103 campsites in sunny, shady locations and some are located directly on the lake with boat connections - ups.

Group camps are available for organisations up to 50 people, and group camping is available in the summer months to all organisations with 50 or more people.

More than twelve kilometres of hiking trails provide access to nature, and an extensive network of paths has been developed in the western arm. Part of the state's Buckeye Trail runs through the park and offers extensive snowmobile trails under permitted conditions.

A 20 km long horse riding trail leads through woods and meadows, and the trail starts at the western boat ramp and leads south along the river to the east bank.

Horse camps are only open to those with a permit, and riders must provide their own horses and a permit to use the campsites.

The adjacent State Nature Reserve, located northwest of Streetsboro, offers additional recreational opportunities. Visitors can enjoy a variety of wildlife habitats, such as wetlands, grasslands and wetlands. These wetlands provide food and shelter for thousands of waterfowl during the spring and autumn migration periods.

The winding trails wind through spectacular rock formations, which have become a trademark of the national park. Picnic walks offer magnificent views of Mount Vernon, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Other state parks in the area include West Branch State Park and State Nature Reserve, as well as other state and local parks.
