About Sinnemahoning State Park

Sinnemahoning is located in the western part of Pennsylvania, surrounded by the Elk State Forest and offers views of the surrounding mountains, the Delaware River and its tributaries. There is an abundance of wildlife, including deer, elk, elk, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and other wild animals that breed in and around the park. The 35-seat campsite is open from the second weekend in April to the end of December and is located on the west side of SinnEMAHONING State Park, south of Mount Pleasant.

The site has picnic tables, fire rings and can accommodate tent equipment. It has berths for up to 45 boats, and the campsite has hideaways and play equipment, as well as a fireplace, picnic area and picnic areas.

Inflatable boats are allowed, provided they have two or more swimming chambers and are at least 1.50 m long. A permit to anchor is required and can be requested at the park office. All motor boats must have a boat registration in the state, and all non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations in each state: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.

There are three picnic areas and two picnic pavilions available in the Forty Maples Picnic Area and can be reserved for up to 11 months for advance payment. There is no unrestricted picnic pavilion and everyone comes first, they are served first.

When wild animals lose their fear of humans, they can become pests, which can lead to dangerous situations. It is strongly advised not to feed animals in the Forty Maples Picnic Area or in any of the picnic areas or picnic pavilions.

The Red Fruce Trail is about 1.5 km long and leads from the campground to the Forty Maples Picnic Area. Then you cross an old field that has been converted into a spruce plantation, and then through a wooded area. Several hiking trails provide an excellent opportunity to observe the more remote areas of the park.

The Low Lands Trail was originally part of the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad, and along the route you can see grassland birds such as ospreys, moose and butterflies. In some areas you can encounter venomous snakes like rattlesnakes, but the view is steady and not far from the main entrance of the park.

The Park's routes consist of 3.1 km of routes, 4.2 km in total, with a distance of 1.5 km from the main entrance to the hiking trail and another 3 km in the middle.

All the paths are well signposted and orange markings are in place, and the state forests are maintained weekly. The trails of the park are part of the National Park Service's national forest network. Snowmobiles can be used on designated trails and roads in the park and on the State Park trail system.

Snowmobiles must not travel on frozen water or along the coast and must be at least 1,000 feet from the coast.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, ecologically interpretive pontoon boat rides are offered. For more information, please contact the parking office at (888) 684-5555 or email [email protected] for more details.

The Quehanna Wild Area, south of Sinnemahoning, is located in the Elk State Forest and is open for hunting, fishing and recreation. The QueHanna Trail System offers primitive forest recreation, limited to day activities and backpacking. Besides camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and other recreational activities, other programs are also offered.

The scenic ride follows the route of the Bucktail Regiment on its way to the Battle of Gettysburg in World War II. On the way, you'll be part of one of the most famous battles in US history: the Battle of Fort Sumter.

Sinnemahoning State Park is located on PA 872 north of Austin, which represents the Austin Dam that broke in 1911 and destroyed much of the city. Moose can be seen and sighted in the park, as well as at the festival, the annual Austin Moose Festival. The festival takes place every year on the first Saturday in October from July to September from 2 pm to 5 pm.
