About Kettle Creek State Park

Kettle Creek State Park covers more than 1,500 acres in eastern Montana. The park is located in a valley surrounded by mountainous terrain and wilderness, south of Mt. Hood National Park and north of Lake Tahoe.

In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed many of the existing recreational facilities that are part of Kettle Creek State Park and other state parks in eastern Montana.

K Kettle Creek State Park is named after the popular trout stream that runs through the area and the creek's name in honor of a local.

In 1962, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened the Alvin R. Bush Dam to protect the Susquehanna watershed. The area around the dam is managed and developed for recreation by the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks.

The park has behaved in many ways, from hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, mountain biking, hiking and fishing.

This campsite overlooks the water and offers picturesque views and a peaceful environment.

The Lower campsite has 44 pitches, 38 of which have electricity (38%). The upper campsites have 27 pitches equipped with electricity, 12% and the lower campsite with electricity 5%.
In this area there is a flat, sunny and shady place where tents and trailers are located, and the place has picnic tables and a campfire.

A sanitary landfill for trailers is located at the bottom of the campsite, but there are no water and drainage connections. Nearby there is a toilet and washing facilities with a tap, and a 250 meter long sandy beach is open.

The beach is located at the northern end of the main store and you swim at your own risk, but it is safe to swim further and swim in it.

Children under ten must be accompanied by a parent or other adult with a child under ten. The 167-hectare Kettle Creek Reservoir has been well-behaved, with more than 60 boats moored at the northern end. No sailing boards or sailboats are allowed, and a permit to stay overnight is required.

Motorhome accommodation is also available free of charge, but all motor boats must have a boat license in the state. All non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations from the states.

All vessels must have a ship suitable for the crew and approved by the Coast Guard. You must wear a PFD approved for boating and wear a life jacket, life jackets and a Coast Guard approved swimsuit or other protective equipment when boating.

Sunny and shady picnic areas are available on the beach, in the parking lot and on the scattered grounds along the coast. The picnic area is located at the southern end of Kettle Creek State Park, just south of the park entrance.

Several large open spaces offer excellent play facilities for groups of all sizes, and toilets are located on the beach and in the park office. Softball and volleyball courts are equipped with playground equipment at several locations and several large picnic areas with picnic tables.
A large picnic pavilion with electricity overlooking the lake is at your disposal if you come first and are served first. The Pine Grove picnic area is also available on reservation, with picnic tables, picnic chairs and a picnic table for $5 per person.

Accommodation on the trail is only possible with a permit, and overnight stays along the trails are limited to one night. This 22 mile trail starts at Beaverdam Run and leads through the park back to the starting point at Pine Grove Picnic Area, south of the parking lot.

Beginners and experienced hikers will find a wealth of trails in the park area, and on many of the park trails short day hikes are possible. Backpackers can enjoy the Kettle Creek Trail and its parking lot. This path connects with several other trails, so that a short full-day hike on many park trails is possible, as well as a long-distance hike along the creek.

During the summer months, Kettle Creek State Park shares an environmental interpreter with Ole Bull State Park. During the summer, we share environmental interpreters with O'Ole Bull State Park in June, July and August.

The history and environment of the area is a theme for educational programs for visitors of all ages. Every week we plan guided hikes, picnics, guided walks and other activities for children and adults. Special requests are welcome and can be addressed to the park office, and program booklets are available at the park office.

Located in western Clinton and northern Centre County, the forest is surrounded by Allegheny National Forest, Pennsylvania State Park System and other state and local parks.

This multi-purpose management system offers a variety of forest leisure activities such as hiking, camping and fishing. The areas of the State Forest of Sproul are open for hunting and fishing, but camping in the State Forest requires a permit.

The Alvin R. Bush Dam is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers and was built during World War II as a flood control dam during the Great Depression. It is the largest dam in the United States with a capacity of 1.5 million cubic feet per second.
