About Landsford Canal State Park

The 460-hectare park, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, includes the ruins of a lock keeper's house that housed the original locks of the Lanesford Canal, the largest and best of its kind in the United States. Between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, four canals were built along the Connecticut River, some of which are still intact today. At that time boats used the canal to bypass rapids and transport goods to the coast.

The land of the Ford is also associated with the Revolutionary War, and Thomas Sumter's troops crossed this place on the day of his hanging on their way to Charleston, South Carolina. The British army under Lord Cornwallis crossed the Catawba here when it fell to the Confederate Army of General Robert E. Lee and his army.

Landsford Canal offers visitors a wealth of natural beauty and is located on the South Carolina Falls Line. The rocky shallows of the Catawba River are home to a variety of bird species, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, as well as birds of prey.

These geological features give the Catawba River its elevation differences, which create shallows and rapids in the river. The area is home to a variety of plant species, many of which are native to South Carolina. These magnificent plants have adapted to life in a very harsh environment and represent one of the greatest natural landscapes in North Carolina and the United States. Some of these plants cover the rivers with white blankets, while others, such as blackberries, blueberries and blackberries, cover rivers with a white blanket, similar to the color of a cloud.

How to get there : Take Exit 77 from Charlotte on Highways 5 and 21, turn left and go 10 miles to the Landsford Canal State Park sign. Turn left to the south and the entrance of the park is on the left and you have to go through a parking lot And then a goal on the left.

How to get there : Take I-77 from Charlotte at Exit 77 of Highways 5 and 21, turn left and travel 5 miles on Highway 21. Turn left on Highway 223, travel 3 miles on Highway 223, turn right and drive 10 miles.

Turn left on Highway 21, turn right and go two miles to the State Park sign, the park entrance is on the left. Turn left and travel 2 miles on Highways 5 and 21 before turning right, travel 1 mile on State Park Road, then 1.5 miles.
