About Lake Wateree State Park

The Lake Wateree State Recreation Area offers scenic views of the Columbia - Rock Hill area and the rest of South Carolina. The park is located south of Columbia, north of Greenville and west of Charlotte, North Carolina's second largest city. Here, areas such as Columbia and Camden and RockHill are easily accessible, but also within easy reach. With a population of about 1.5 million people, it is the second largest national park in the United States after the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Since the dam was built in 1919, Lake Wateree has been the largest striped perch in North Carolina and the second largest in the United States. The 238-hectare park includes public boat moorings for the public, as well as a boat ramp and a jetty for private boats. Day visitors and campers can also enjoy the picturesque view of the lake and its many lakes and streams. Each wooded campsite by the lake has 72 pitches, many of which offer space for larger campers and are equipped with water and electricity.
