About Dunbar Cave State Park
Dunbar Cave is a designated nature reserve within Dunbar State Park, a state park in New Hampshire, USA. It is located on the north side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.
Criss - crossing a series of sinkholes, the most prominent of which is Dunbar Cave, whose cave is crossed by a narrow stream, a small stream and a large stream. The spacious cave openings were once used as a shelter for a number of animal species such as birds, reptiles and amphibians.
The 8.1 mile long cave has historical, natural, archaeological and geological significance.
Excavations have revealed that the cave has been inhabited for thousands of years by people attracted by the natural beauty of the cave and its natural environment, as well as by animals and plants.
Fishing is a popular activity at the beautiful Swan Lake, and the lake is fed by a cold, clear stream flowing from the mouth of Dunbar Cave.
Although it is only 15 hectares, boating and swimming are not allowed and a valid TN fishing licence is required.
The park has seven picnic tables in the visitor centre overlooking the picturesque Swan Lake. The picnic area is not wheelchair accessible and the main entrance to the park is accessible only by car.
July Speleology will be Wednesday - Sunday from 13: 00 - 15: 00 on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday and Monday and Tuesday. Participants must be able to walk or have a flashlight and a reservation and can carry up to 1,000 metres of water and run at a maximum speed of 20 km / h.
Take Interstate 24 to Exit 8 on Rossview Road and turn left on Rossviews Road, then turn right on the freeway at Exit 9 and then right on the park.
Dunnar Cave State Park is one of the state's most popular hiking and camping areas, with over 1,000 acres of hiking, camping and hiking trails.
