About Monument Hill State Park

The Monument Hill tomb was purchased by the state of Texas in 1907 and transferred to Texas Parks and Wildlife in 1949, and in 1956 3.58 hectares were dedicated to the site. Monument Hills State Park, the first state park in the United States, is located at the foot of the hill, which covers a total of 40.4 hectares, north of Fort Worth, Texas.

In 1977, another 36 hectares of land were added to the area of the Kreischen Brewery Kreischen Heim, and in 1977 the park was opened after archaeological investigations and stabilization work.

The brewery is open daily with guided tours led by trained park instructors, and on selected weekends, when volunteers are available, a guided tour of the Kreische Haus is planned.

Guided tours for special groups can be arranged in advance with the park administration to visit the Monument Hill Brewery and Kreische Haus. Large groups can enjoy a special view of the park, the main beer garden, the beer garden and the museum from the brewery. There is an easily accessible carbe on the day trip, which is usually an hour and a half drive from downtown Washington, D.C., or a 30-minute drive to State Park.

The town of La Grange has many beautiful old buildings, including that of Mr. Kreische, which was built in the late 19th century as a private residence for the owner of the Monument Hill Brewery and can be visited, and an architecturally significant courthouse from the 1890s, which houses the actual courthouse. The courthouse lawn is located at the corner of Washington Street and Washington Avenue, just south of downtown Washington, D.C., and the City Square. On one corner of the square is the seat of the City Council, the State Parliament, the County Board of Supervisors and other government officials who are facing the park. It starts at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and at 12 noon on Monday and Tuesday. To the south, opposite the park, is the unique painted church tour, which shows the history of this historic church and its importance to the local community.

The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce has offices and offices in the historic building on the corner of Washington Street and Washington Avenue, across from the park.

The communities of Round Top and Winedale are nearby and both can be visited. La Grange is located between San Antonio, Austin and Houston and can be reached from Route 92 east along State Highway 77 and then to Route 91 to La Granges.
