About Lockhart State Park

Lockhart State Park is located in the town of Lockhart, Texas, about 30 miles south of Houston, Texas. The land was bequeathed to the family in 1934 and 1937, and the park was established as a state park by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1935 and 1938. In 1948 it was re-designated as a state park and officially founded in 1948.

The Battle of Plum Creek was fought at Lockhart during the American Civil War between the US Army and the Confederate Army of Texas in 1864.

Animals include various snake species, including rattlesnakes and coral snakes, but also birds, reptiles and amphibians. Some of my favorite fish in Clear Fork Creek are the perch and sunfish. Nearby attractions include the Lockhart Museum of Natural History and the Texas State Capitol, the Fort Worth Zoo and several other attractions.

Travel south on Interstate 35 for one mile to reach this park and then drive north about two miles to Lake Park Road, just north of the parking lot.
