About Goose Island State Park
Goose Island State Park, surrounded by St. Charles and Aransas bays, covers an area of 221.4 hectares and is located north of Rockport in Arkansas County. An earlier park was established by the Civil Conservation Service in the early 1930s, but between 1931 and 1935 the state island of geese was acquired by law, making it a state park.
The large tree is estimated to be over 1,000 years old, has a diameter of more than 1.5 meters and is considered one of the largest in the nation. In 1969, it was awarded the National Register of Historic Places and the Living Quercus National Historic Landmark Award.
Directly opposite St. Charles Bay is the wintering area of the endangered pertussis, a species of bird of prey. A number of other birds live near the island, such as bald eagles, owls, sea lions and sea otters. The park is located on the eastern bank of the St. Charles River, north of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
