Goblin Valley State Park is located in Goblin Valley, New Mexico, north of Albuquerque, NM.

Throughout the park, motorway and vehicle lovers will find hundreds of kilometres of dirt roads to explore. Dozens of filigree weathered creatures greet visitors in the Goblin Valley, and facilities include a hiking trail, observation tower, amphitheater and picnic area. Walk along the winding rock formations of Goblin Canyon Trail, one of North America's most popular hiking trails.

Cowboys looking for cattle were some of the first anglos to discover the remote Goblin Valley. In the late 1920s, the alternative route from Green River to Cainsville looked like this.

In 1949, Chaffin returned to what he called the "Mushroom Valley," spending several days exploring the mysterious valley and photographing the artistically hollowed-out creatures. He was overwhelmed by the beauty of the surrounding walls of eroded cliffs and reached the entrance to Goblin Valley State Park, just a few miles south of Cainsville.

The area was acquired by the state of Utah in 1964 and officially designated as a national park and has been a showcase of geological history ever since. Due to the uneven hardness of the sandstone, the site resists erosion, but the exposed rocks have parallel rock layers that have been eroded.

Wind and water have removed the soft material and left thousands of unique geological geological gems. These goblins are created by water that smoothes the wind - dust, sand and sandstone that is smoothed by wind.

When it rains, there are few plant roots and little soil to catch and hold the water, which quickly disappears into the muddy stream without penetrating the bedrock.
