About Scofield State Park

For summer and winter treats, Scofield offers some of the state's best hiking, camping and hiking trails, as well as a variety of outdoor activities for children.

During the winter months, the area provides a picturesque backdrop to the spectacular mountains that surround the park. Scofield State Park is located in the northern part of the state, just north of New York City, on the eastern edge of Lake Erie, a 2,800-acre lake that offers a variety of outdoor activities for adults and children, as well as a recreational area for children.

For recreational use, three state facilities are available: the Scofield State Park Ski and Snowshoe Center, Schenectady Ski Area, and Lake Erie Ski and Snowboard Area.

Madsen Bay at the northern end of the reservoir is a popular place for group and family celebrations. Mountain View, located 6 miles north of Scofield, offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, snowshoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming.

The lakeside day use area offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. The property includes a picnic area, picnic tables and benches for groups, as well as picnic areas and a playground.

Scofield was named after John Scofield, a timber entrepreneur who became the first president of the American Lumber Company, the largest timber company in the United States. In the 1870s, settlers came to the Pleasant Valley for a large grazing area, today fewer than 100 live outside the city. Mining peaked in the early 1920s, when it had a population of about 1,000 people and an annual income of $2,500.

Take I-15 South at the Price - Manti Exit and turn right onto the rail line - cross SR96 and then head north on SR95 until you pass the entrance to Scofield State Park on the right.
