About Ashley National Forest

Ashley National Forest is located in northeastern Utah and southwestern Wyoming and covers over 1.3 million acres. The largest national forest in the country and the second largest in the United States is located south of Salt Lake City, Utah, north of the Utah-Wyoming border.

Lake Flaming Gorge is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts and is home to one of the largest freshwater lakes in the USA and the second largest lake in Utah. The most popular recreational activities on the lake are fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing and rafting. It is also known as the "fishing canyon" because it is one of Utah's most famous fishing spots and the largest trout fishing in the world. A 91-mile reservoir created by the Flamed Gorge Dam is criss-crossed by a series of waterfalls, lakes, rivers and streams, and contributes to the water quality of Lake Ashley, the nation's second-largest reservoir.

The wilderness of High Uintas covers 460,000 acres and is the largest wilderness in Utah with a total area of 1.5 million acres and a population of more than 2.2 million people.

Ashley National Forest has two scenic side roads, two in the wilderness of High Uintas and one on the east side of the Ashley River. The backway provides access to Beehive State Park and Beed National Wildlife Refuge, as well as a number of other national parks and hiking trails.
