About Mason Neck State Park

Mason Neck State Park is located on a peninsula that forms the southern edge of Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge in New Hampshire. Active herons breed on the peninsula, and bald eagles also inhabit the area, but the park also attracts whistling swans and various duck species, including white - nose ducks, blue - ear ducks and black - and - white ducks.

There are also several wetlands in Mason Neck, and the park has several hundred acres of deciduous forest consisting of pine, oak, birch, elm, pine and other tree species, as well as a small number of shrubs.

The park opened to the public in 1985, and the conservation authority bought the land that year. The National Wildlife Refuge, which covers more than 2,000 acres, is connected to Mason Neck State Park by a 1,500-foot bridge over the Delaware River.

The Mason Neck Conservation Committee was established in 1966 after two bald eagle nests were discovered in Mason Neck. Concerned about the impending development of the peninsula, a panel recommended that part of the area be used as a national park. In August 1967, the municipality began to buy a piece of land from the nature conservation department with the help of a federal grant.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a series of events threatened the sanctity of Mason Neck. A $1.5 million development on the peninsula and the construction of a new bridge over the Delaware River have been proposed.

The proposal met with opposition from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection (DNR), but plans for the project were dropped in favor of the state - which operates Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Masonneck State Park opened to the public in April 1985 and now houses more than 1,000 hectares of wildlife habitat.

For parking fees, please click here to see a list of Mason Neck State Park vacation rentals. Parking fees are not included in the rental price, but you can rent accommodations for as little as $5 per day or $10 per week for the whole year.

The day tenants leave the park at sunset, and all other months of the year are open to the public on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends and public holidays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can rent accommodations for as little as $5 per day or $10 per week for an entire year. Shelters can be rented at Mason Neck State Park for $2 per night for up to three nights or for an additional $3 per month.

For caterers who need up to 30 days, a special use permit is required, and then a $10 cancellation fee is due. Visitors must contact the park to pay parking fees for their group as a whole.

The park is open daily from 8 am until sunset, and there is no bathroom in the park, but a number of picnic areas, picnic tables and picnic chairs. The shelter is a 40 x 20 foot framed tent, the roof of the tent is vinyl and the sides are open, in the middle there is a hole

It can accommodate up to 50 people, but guests must bring deck chairs, additional tables and barbecues are not recommended. It is not permitted to put up an additional tent and you cannot use the grounds as renting accommodation does not guarantee the exclusive use of the public area.

The park is still accessible on foot and parking is sufficient, but on busy weekends it may be necessary to unload supplies and park in the parking lot while the park is still accessible on foot. The shelter is located in a public picnic area, and the toilet is about 60 feet away. There are no power outlets or hydrants and there is no access to water from the stream or any other water source on the premises.

More than three kilometres of hiking trails wind through the park and offer views of the nature and the bay. Increased walkways allow visitors to explore the park's wetlands, and a self-guided trail runs along the coast.

Ten bicycles can be rented for one hour, and the park is accessible via a one-way street from the parking lot on the north side of the road.
