About Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park

Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park is a major Civil War battlefield located at the southern end of the national park, south of Carnifex Ferry, Texas. On September 10, 1861, Union troops led by Brigadier General William S. Rosecrans obliged the Confederates and forced them to leave their fixed position on Henry Patterson Farm overlooking Carnaval Ferry and to retreat to General John B. Floyd.

As a result, any movement in West Virginia proceeded without serious Confederate threat. The civil war would affect the rest of the civil war, as the Union Army's efforts to regain control of the Kanawha Valley failed.

Carnifex Ferry Battlefield is the official site dedicated to the discovery of the Civil War. The Civil War House's Trail Initiative allows visitors to explore other places that bring history to life. The Civil War Discovery Trail, which inspires and teaches the history of the Civil War in West Virginia and its impact on the nation, connects more than 300 locations in 16 states. For more information, please call 1-800-CWTRUST for information on this and other trails in the state of Virginia, or click here for a map.

Various live historical demonstrations depict military life during the Civil War, as well as the history of the Civil War and its impact on the nation.

The Battle of Carnifext Ferry is re-enacted for the first time in the history of the National Park, with live historical demonstrations, food and entertainment.

The event attracts hundreds of the best Civil War re-enactments from several states and is touted as one of the largest and most successful re-enactments in America. The two-day event includes several lively historical performances, including live music, food and entertainment, as well as a live military parade. Visitors to the park are encouraged to enter the camp and interact with the aftershocks of the battle. The performance will also take place at the Carnifext Ferry State Park site, just a few miles south of New York City.

History-related activities start and continue throughout the day, and indeed one of the actors offers guided tours every day. The museum opens at 5 pm, then the 1.5 km long park is open from 5.30 am to 7 pm and from 6.15 pm to 8.45 pm, and then from 9.20 am to 10.40 pm, the museum and the warehouse are open.
