About Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

The Zayante Indians lived in the area for more than 2000 years, where they found shelter, water and game. The park has a horse-riding trail and a replica of what the forest looked like almost 200 years ago.

Henry Cowell Redwoods is the home of the century - the old Redwood Grove, which has a self-guided nature trail. In the park there are old - growing forests as well as a large number of old trees, such as redwoods.

The park has a picnic area overlooking the San Lorenzo River, and in winter fishermen fish for salmon and in summer for trout.

The park has a nature center and a bookstore, and the main park area has some of the largest and oldest sequoias, while the northern area near Fall Creek has about 20 km of hiking trails. The oldest trees in the park are between 1400 and 1800 years old and some are taller than the trees within the park.

The terrain varies from forest to chaparral and the park has about 20 km of hiking trails, some of which are very steep. There is a nature centre and a bookshop, as well as a network of hiking trails with some very steep trails, such as the one near Fall Creek.

Hikers are allowed to use the paths and roads, there are no bridges or brook crossings. Dogs are welcome in the park, but must always be on a lead, except at night in cars and tents, and must not be left unattended.

Bicycles are allowed, but not on other roads or roads inland, and dogs are only allowed on paths and roads in the park, not on bridges, brook crossings or bridges over rivers.

Cyclists under 18 years of age must wear helmets, motorcycles and cars must not drive on roads or roads inland.

Mexico became independent from Spain in 1821 and ruled the territory until 1846, and parts of Alta California were divided into land grants and sold to interested Mexican citizens for a very small fee.

The redwoods were the most important water sources for the San Francisco Bay Area water supply.

Fishing on the San Lorenzo River is allowed during the salmon season from November to February, but all activities are regulated by the California Department of Fish and Game.

Other fishing opportunities are not allowed and a fishing licence is required, but the exact fishing season has yet to be determined. These rules are enforced by park rangers and wardens, so no fishing licences are required.

Horses are allowed on the paths and in the parking lot, but horses or trailers are not allowed, and horse trailers are not allowed. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is a California national park located at the southern end of Redwood National Forest, north of San Francisco Bay.

The Rincon Fire Road car park is located at the northern end of the Redwood Trail Head car park, south of Ox Trail Road. Ox Trailhead Parking is also located on the east side of Redwoods State Park, near the entrance to the main park entrance.

The Redwood Grove Trail is a flat, easy walk through the giant sequoias and is bordered by the Redwood Trail Head car park, Ox Trail Road and Rincon Fire Road.

A toilet is available halfway through, and toilets are available in the Redwood Grove Trail Head parking lot, Ox Trail Road and Rincon Fire Road.

Wheelchair users and strollers can use the smooth but crowded path, and the Nature Centre offers self-guided brochures for 25 cents. The Roaring Camp Big Trees Railroad is located at the Redwood Grove Trail Head car park, Ox Trail Road and Rincon Fire Road. A hiking trail is also located near the nature centre on the east side of the trail, just south of Redwoods Grove Road, about 800 metres from the entrance.

A brochure with general train information is available at the kiosk at the main entrance, or you can pay the daily fee and walk hundreds of meters to the Roaring Camp.
