About Richardson Grove State Park

The name was founded in 1922 and is shared by the Highway, and it is one of the oldest state parks in North America. Camping, hiking, swimming and just relaxing are popular activities all year round, but salmon and steelhead fishing is popular in winter.

If you come from the north, you will come across significant old redwoods, and immediately a great view of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge is available.

The park offers a variety of interpretative and educational programs in summer, including guided hikes, hikes, canoeing, kayaking and hiking. The visitor centre and nature shop are also open from May to September and are located in the historic 1930s Richardson Grove Lodge. If you really want to experience the magic and majesty of the park, visit the Redwoods State Park Visitor Center on the north side of the park.

The park, which was acquired in the 1920s, was named after a friend, although some park lovers suspect the reason is unclear. The ultra-conservative Richardson was notorious for spending - all - or dying - on - the statutory spending laws. Fortunately, Richardson Grove has some of the most beautiful and tranquil redwood forests in California, as well as a variety of hiking trails and picnic spots.

In the summer months the park offers a full program of interpretative programs. A visit to Richardson Grove starts with a short walk through the redwood to the top of the hill and a picnic area. Look out for the group camp, located at the foot of a steep hill just a few blocks from the main park entrance.

The redwoods grow along the South Fork of the Eel River, but frequent flooding in recent years has led to some particularly tall redwoods growing. For those who grew up in Redwood on the south side of Richardson Grove, just blocks from the park's main entrance, guided tours are available.

How to get there: Take the Richardson Grove State Park exit from Garberville and park at the picnic area near the visitor center. If you accidentally reserve a spot at Madrone Campground, it can be a bit difficult to reach one of the trailheads, but if you are not camping, the best option is to take the short path that follows Highway 101, which appears on the other side and leads you off the way to Madrona Campgrounds.
