About Pearl Lake State Park

Just a few miles away, Pearl Lake State Park feels like an escape from Colorado's hinterland.

PearlLake State Park is just that, and as the yurts are open and accessible daily, camping at Pearl Lake will be possible all year round.

For more information, please see the conditions page on the left and the official website of the park for a complete list of conditions and information.

This tranquil park is located on the shores of Pearl Lake, a small lake in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. The visitors are surrounded by mountain trees and there is no real escape from everyday life. There are native collar trout, which flash their red throats when they are pulled into the water, as well as many other fish species.

Picnics can be enjoyed in the large trees that surround the lake, and trails lead visitors to the coast and deep forest.

On the west and north side the park is covered by Pleistofence and Hol ofence alluvial land, on the east and west side by a terminal moraine. South and east of Pearl Lake there are pre-Cambrian rocks (gneiss, volcanic amphibolite), and the deposits of farmland are in the terminal moraines. On the north side, between the lake and the shore, there is a large area of gravel - consisting of alluvial land - and a small part near the shore.

The northern subalpine forest, consisting of pine, firs, birches, elms and other tree species and shrubs, is more common on the northern slopes. On the south side of Pearl Lake State Park, between the lake and shore, there is a small wooded area, but it is predominantly forest.

The sagebush bushland is located on the northeast side of Pearl Lake, and herbaceous undergrowth species in the pine forest include sagebud, sawbrush, berry bushes and other shrubs, as well as pine and birch. The aspen forest community is characterized by the presence of a large number of aspens, pines, firs, elms and birches, as well as a variety of other tree species.

The willow wagon is a swamp shrub community dominated by a variety of pastures, including Wolf's Bude, Geyer and Light Willow. Large saw bushes dominate the community, while hare brush, hoe and heron are the other common shrubs. In this area and in many other areas of the park, numerous species of grass such as pine, birch, oak and oak have been settled.

A small area of moist meadows exhibits features that indicate periodic moist conditions. A common native species on the wet meadows is the tuft, and visitors can even observe turtles growing in areas with stagnant water. The swamp is home to a variety of grasses and shrubs, as well as a number of wild flowers, such as the willow wagon.

Routt National Forest has helped to preserve a large, coherent habitat in this region. Also the long-tailed weasel and the striped choral frog as well as a number of other native species are represented.

The restrictions and vigilant boating at Pearl Lake contribute to the peaceful atmosphere of the park.

The reservoir has enough water that it does not experience dramatic late summer falls.

Over 200 species of migratory and residential birds are known in the park, including the large sand hill crane, sand hill cranes and many other birds. In spring, the large sand crickets return to nest in the wicker wagons and swamps. Park staff are asking visitors to keep their distance when they watch the crane breeding and breeding in spring.

Occasionally, brown trout and grayling are reported, but brown trout are considered gold medals.
