About Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park

Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club is a privately operated conference centre, golf course and recreation area. The park was built as a memorial to US veterans and is one of Georgia's most popular parks due to its proximity to the Atlanta subway station and the Georgia State Park System.

The Yucca Trace Trail is a hiking and cycling trail that is about a mile long and connects the park with Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club. The SAM Shortline Excursion Train travels through the parks and allows riders to visit wildlife habitats such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Georgia State Park System and Atlanta Zoo.

The Lake Shore Trail is a leisurely hiking and cycling trail that winds along the shores of Lake Blackshear and Gum Creek. Part of the path winds around a disco golf course, and the loop turns into the sight of SAM's short-line train tracks. The Yucca Trail can be accessed from the parking lot on the south side of Black Shearwater Road, south of Blue Ridge Parkway.

Access to the Lake Shore Trail is from the parking lot on the south side of Black Shearwater Road, south of Blue Ridge Parkway. This wetland path can show views of Lake Blackshear and Gum Creek as well as the view of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park. The hotel is also located at the intersection of White River Road and Black Shearwaters Road.
