About Argyle Lake State Park

Argyle Lake State Park is known as a fishing paradise and offers a wealth of recreational opportunities. With fully equipped campsites, well-wooded hiking trails and plenty of space, this is an ideal place to spend a day, weekend or longer. Known as one of the most beautiful lakes in the state of New York and a popular destination for picnics, camping, hiking and boating, it offers picnic tents and hiking, as well as fishing, kayaking, swimming, canoeing, fishing and other recreational activities. Argyle Hollow, now on the lake, is rich in local history and was once the site of a small fishing village and home to a large number of fishing and fishing families.

The high-powered cars and their rumbling as they rumbled across the lake on their way to and from Argyle.

The region itself has long been a source of coal, clay and limestone, and several limestone quarries in the general area are still in operation today. In the past, it was even common for individuals to open and dig their own drift mines to supplement their personal income.

In 1948, the state bought the land from local farmers and landowners, built the dam that created the lake, and dedicated Argyle Lake State Park to Illinois citizens. The concession stand is located on the jetty, and there is an outdoor bait shop, picnic area, picnic tables and picnic benches. The opening hours of bait shops are Monday to Friday from 7 am to 5 pm and from 7: 30 am to 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 10: 45 pm, Monday and Tuesday from 12 pm to 4 pm.

For a longer visit, the park includes access to parking spaces and toilets, a picnic area, picnic tables and picnic benches. Also available are campsites with camping chairs, tables and chairs for up to four people and a campsite with a fireplace.

Argyle Lake State Park has 10 shaded picnic areas, all comfortably equipped with tables, barbecues and water. No matter how long it has been since you went to the park, pack a picnic and take a day trip to one of the State Parks in New York.

In addition to the three large shelters, there is also a playground that keeps the children occupied with swings and slides. The accommodations are large enough to be reserved for family celebrations and meetings.

A three-mile hiking trail offers unparalleled scenic enjoyment with views of the river, lake and mountains east and west of Argyle Lake State Park.

There are also more than 200 bird species that call Argyle Lake home, and it is home to many bird species from bygone times. Watch beavers near the dam on the shore, as well as birds of prey such as the Great Blue Heron. There are 12 hiking trails in the park, most of which are classified as difficult or very difficult. Blackberrys and Pitch Pine trails are rated moderate and Blue Ridge Trail high - difficulty, but there are 12 of them.

From West Colchester : Take Route 136 to Coal Road, which leads north from Sinclair Station in Col Chester. The park is located on the north side of Argyle Lake State Park, north of the intersection of Route 67 and Route 66.
