About Wakonda State Park

Wakonda State Park in northeastern Missouri, which consists of land once mined for the gravel used to cover Missouri's back roads, has become one of the most popular bike paths in the US and a favorite destination for cycling fans.

The two lakes have boat ramps and non-motorized juony boats and canoes can be rented at the park office. During migration season, the clear waters of the lakes attract Canada geese, ducks and other migratory birds, as well as migratory birds from other countries. The lakes also offer anglers the opportunity to catch white bass, bluefish, toads and catfish.

The sand excavated during the excavations was piled up to create a landscape of sandy ridges that has become a rare sand prairie. The excavations have also made the park one of the largest sand volleyball courts in the United States. Sand volleyball, which can be played on the beach or on the sandy beach by the lake, is offered to the public free of charge and for a fee of 1 dollar per person per day.

Camping and caravans are available at one of the lakes in the park, and 10 caravans can be rented at Wakonda State Park. For guests who wish to extend their stay, a campsite is available, as well as a parking lot for campers and trailers.

A 20,000 square meter beach offers a variety of activities such as swimming, beach volleyball and fishing. A snack bar is located on the beach and a sandstone quarry helps to create a sandy beach, as well as a picnic area, swimming pool and picnic tables.

There is no lifeguard, so swim at your own risk, but there is a shower house and toilets for your convenience on the beach. The beach is open from 10 am to 6 pm on weekends, 11 am to 4 am on weekdays and 12 am to 4 pm at night.

Concrete boats are available at Wakonda Lake, but there is no entry fee at the park and no concrete boats at Wakondas Lake.

Quartz granite bouldering on the lake only allows boats with electric motors and at Jasper Lake no boats are allowed. On the lakes Wakonda and Agate a maximum of 10 HP engine power is allowed, on the Wakondas Lake however no boat power, no concrete boats and only electric motors.

Agate, Jasper, Quartz and Wakonda Lakes are the most popular among fishermen, anglers can also throw on the Wakondas Lake and the Agate Lake.

Besides the lake, the park also has a number of hiking trails, such as the Wakondas Trail, the Wakonda Trail and the Black Rock Trail.

The daily limit for all catfish together is four, for cappie 30 and for perches with large mouths six centimetres. The wallet must be at least 15 cm long, but the length is protected by at least 10 cm and at most 20 mm.

For all other fish together the daily limit is three, of which only 15 may be yellowfish and whitefish and only four may be suckers in their entirety.

For more information on fisheries regulations, please contact the park office at (888) 843-8477 or the Wakonda State Park website. The beach is located on Lake Wakondas and is not allowed to fish, swim, boat or do any other recreational activities on or near the coast.
