About Ramsey Lake State Park

The Shady Grove and Lakeview picnic areas provide an ideal environment for large groups. Each has accommodation, water table and stove privileges, as well as access to a picnic area with picnic tables and picnic benches.

Shady Grove also has play equipment, making it a popular choice for people who prefer a smaller, more secluded picnic. The pitch is situated in a shady area on a hill overlooking the lake and has tables and stoves. Ramsey Lake has a colourful background and has been colourful in the past, as in this photo from Lakeview Picnic Site in 2009.

The park is known as Old Fox Chase Grounds and there is also a large dog test taking place every Saturday and Sunday from July to September on the grounds of the park. The large dogs and a variety of other activities attract many people to Ramsey Lake State Park in the summer, especially in the summer months.

Although the site was privately owned by H.E. Stokes, it has been used for public recreation by various groups for many years. In 1947, 815 hectares were bought as a seaside resort, and since then a further 1000 hectares have been added. Over the years, county and city officials, as well as concerned citizens from across the state of Minnesota, have actively contributed to the preservation, enhancement and redevelopment of the area, which now covers 1,980 acres.

Campers have the choice of pitching their tent or parking a trailer with lots of pitches. 24 places are available for organized groups without electricity. The area includes a number of picnic areas, picnic tables and picnic benches, as well as a variety of other amenities including swimming pools, playgrounds, water parks and a picnic area.

Hickory Grove is for those who only need picnic tables and fire cushions, but also have access to a densely wooded area with picnic tables, picnic benches, fire pits and a fire pit.

Water hydrants are conveniently placed on each campsite, and reservations are possible for parts of the campsites. A special place is available for organized youth groups, with access to picnic tables, picnic benches, fire pits and a fire pit.

Fishing is allowed in the various ponds on the grounds, and fishing is also allowed on the launch pad and jetty in Ramsey Lake. Boats can also be rented and electric motors are allowed, but gas engines are not.

Visitors also often use the unmarked fire-fighting trail, which provides a good route for a leisurely walk, as well as the paths on the north side of the lake.

The northern end of the area is located on the northern edge of Ramsey Lake State Park, north of Lake Superior. This area was originally located on the south side of Lake RAMSEY, about 800 m from the entrance of the lake.
