About Charlestown State Park

Charlestown State Park is located in southern Indiana and with more than 1,000 acres of open space is one of the largest state parks in the state of Indiana and has a lot to offer visitors. Birdwatchers will enjoy the 72 bird species, including the blue heron, the black hawk and many others. Walking through the rugged terrain you will see a variety of wildlife, such as deer, elk, elk, coyote, fox, bear, wolf, raccoon, owl, squirrel, bird of prey and much more.

Charlestown is linked to two state parks that offer a fully equipped campsite with a fully equipped, fully furnished and fully accessible campsite. The 4 km follow an existing gravel road, turn left and drive slowly down into the Fourteenmile Creek Valley. You wind through dense alluvial forest and climb the valley walls as you wind through rocky outcrops and abutments.

Wildlife, songbirds and birds of prey can be seen along the route, and spring flowers along this route will delight hikers with breathtaking displays. When the path returns to the parking lot, the lower part of the path goes up and offers a picturesque view of Fourteenmile Creek.

The middle part of the trail runs along a heavily wooded slope, bridging several small gorges and offering views of Fourteenmile Creek and its tributaries. MODERATE 1 / 4 mile follows several streams and gorges before circling back to the picnic area.

The bridge provided access to Rose Island, an amusement park built in the 1920s, but the 1937 flood damaged its facilities beyond recognition. When the army bought the land in 1940, the bridge and the rest of the park were removed.

The best area for brook fishing can be reached on Trail 3, Fourteenmile Creek, followed by a gravel stretch. The middle part of the trail is very scenic, and at the end of the trail the best fishing is reached.

Beginning with gentle terrain, the trail soon begins to descend into mixed deciduous forest, following a tributary of Fourteenmile Creek. Hikers have an impressive view of 14 Mile Creek, whose cliffs are over 100 meters above the water.

High quality forest and impressive wildflowers are found along the way, and eventually the trail reaches a platform overlooking Fourteenmile Creek. The path winds back up the slope and descends into a wooded gorge until it reaches the platform overlooking the Fourteenthmile stream. From there it ends at the stream, from where it is only a short walk back to the campsite.

Non-campers can also enjoy this route by going to the Fourteenthmile Creek Trailhead, which is just a short walk from the campsite for a more intimate experience.

The bridge crosses a natural waterfall and descends to the old Charlestown Landing, where locals shipped and received goods in the 1940s. From the rock face you have a beautiful view of the sea, the river and the city of Charlestsown as well as the city itself.

In spring there is an abundance of wildflowers, and from there there there is a walk back to the steep ground to the old Charlestown Landing and a beautiful view of the city and the river.
