About Wapsipinicon State Park

Opened in 1923, Wapsipinicon State Park is one of the first parks in Iowa and is located on the Wapsipsi River, popularly known as the "Wapi." And not to forget the golf club: within the boundaries of the park there is a 9-hole golf course, which is maintained by the Wapipsip inicon Country Club.

A walk through a variety of flowers, trees and animals leads to magnificent views of steep slopes.

Quiet walkers along the Wapsi Dutch Creek that runs through the park can spot beavers building dams, wild turkeys strutting through the forest and birds of prey. The moss-covered columns of the Wapipsi River and its tributaries are covered with mosses and in this park you can pick mushrooms, nuts and berries.

The roads that wind along the river and the cliffs offer unforgettable views of the Wapipsi River and its tributaries, as well as the stream and the park itself.

The White Pine Forest gives the impression of being one of the oldest plantations in Iowa and is home to a variety of wildflowers. Reservations for campsites are available, but half of them are still open, depending on who comes first, the better. The shady campsite has 30 pitches, 15 of which have electricity and 15 without.

The Wapsi River is long, especially near the dam at the entrance to the park, and Dutch Creek flows into the Wappedi at a speed of 1.5 miles per hour, about twice the speed of the average river.
Fishing is almost always good at the estuary, but there are also boat trips, and fishing is best near the estuary and at almost any time.

Wapsipinicon is a great place for family picnics, and there are several open picnic shelters available, which can be reserved with a parking attendant for a fee.

In the northern part of the park there are hiking and nature trails, and several paths lead to Dutch Creek. These versatile paths are versatile in design, with a variety of different types of terrain such as grasslands, forests, grasslands and even a creek bed.

The Northeast State Park Bike Route is a 130-mile route that connects county roads with the state parks to the north and south of the park and the city of Wapsipinicon. Bring your own gear and enjoy comfort while enjoying access to a variety of trails and trails for cycling, hiking, camping and other activities.

A detailed brochure of the route is available, but reservations for this service must be made in advance, and a detailed map is available on the Northeast State Park Bike Route website.

Anamosa is located north of the park, and it has a state male education camp and the state's first female prison. The park is located about 20 miles south of Wapsipinicon State Park and about 30 miles west of New York City. The Rapid Coe National Wildlife Refuge, a national historic site, is located 20 miles southwest of this state line and just a few miles east of the Piscataway National Forest.
