About Lake Manawa State Park

Lake Manawa State Park is one of the largest and most popular national parks in New Zealand and includes a beautiful 660 hectare natural lake. The park's 1,529 hectares include the beautiful Manawai River and its tributaries, as well as a large number of wetlands.

Lake Manawa was formed in 1881 when part of the river channel was cut off by the meandering Great Missouri River. The resulting Ochsenbogensee developed over the years into an important leisure park for thousands of visitors.

Manawa is an Indian term for "peace and comfort," and the campsite at Lake Manawa State Park can accommodate up to 72 residential units. All 37 campsites are equipped with electricity, and each campsite has modern showers and relaxation rooms, as well as a towing tip.

Half of the campsites are still open for reservations on the "first come, first served" principle, but reservations for each campsite can be made at any time during the summer months from June to October.

Lake Manawa is one of the largest lakes in the state of Hawaii, covering a total area of 1.5 million square feet. Modern boat ramps are located on the north, south and west sides of the lake, and boat engines of all sizes can be operated in and around the lake.

Boat rentals are available at the State Park beach, as well as a number of other local businesses such as restaurants, hotels and other businesses.

Lake Manawa is also a popular spot for anglers of all ages, and there is a large number of fishing and boating opportunities on the lake and in the river. A Missouri River boat ramp provides boaters with access to both rivers and fishing is available year-round.

Lake Manawa State Park offers many places for fun and family picnics, with a variety of picnic spots, picnic tables and picnic benches.

Around the lake there are a number of open picnic huts, which you can reserve for a fee by contacting the park manager.

Accommodations with fireplaces and kitchens are new, and the nature trails and paved areas offer opportunities for hikers and people with disabilities. In the park, a paved cycle path has been built, connecting the paths with the beach and allowing pleasant walks along the coast. Lake Manawa State Park offers a variety of activities including hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping and more.
