About Preparation Canyon State Park

Located in the unique Loess Hills of Iowa, the park is surrounded by dramatic ridges to the north, south and west. It is a remote and lovely area, relatively untouched by people, but home to some of the most beautiful and scenic views in North America.

They provide a beautiful backdrop for hikers, families and picnics and provide access to a variety of trails, trails and picnic spots. The park offers a wide range of food and drinks, including beer and wine.

Camping is restricted to hiking and is only allowed in designated locations to protect the remains of the former city and its historic buildings. Preparedation Canyon State Park is located in the foothills of San Bernardino County, California, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. The 344-hectare park includes the former town and the taxidermy, and hosts a variety of hiking trails, picnic areas, waterfalls and picnic areas.

In 1853, Charles B. Thompson broke off from a Mormon wagon and headed for Utah after receiving a message from the Spirit. After a long search, Thompson and a few selected men chose an area called Preparedation Canyon, an Indian name that means Peaceful Valley. Mormon leaders and elders led 50 to 60 Mormon families from Kanesville (now Council Bluffs) to the site of today's City of Preparation in the foothills of San Bernardino County, California.

Here the city was divided into houses and schools, and the first newspaper in Monona County, owned and operated by Thompson, was founded. The Mormons soon learned that they had discovered a place that would become a school for preparing for the hereafter.

In recognition of the wealth of the valley, Thompson's newspaper printed the name of a spirit he called Benedetto, Charles B. Thompson, who was appointed chief steward of the house, who gave him the treasures in that house, kept them, and directed them. Believing in the power of God's power over their lives, possessions, and possessions, people gave deeds and possessions to Thompson, who became quite rich.

He also taught his followers to call him Father Ephraim and E phraam or Holy Scripture, and in 1856 some people recognized their mistake and demanded the return of their property, but were rejected by Father ephRAim.

Furious, they decided to lynch him, and Thompson fled the state to secure the deed, but he escaped the mob by hiding in a friend's attic in Onawa after being warned by a young follower.

In 1856, the Iowa Supreme Court divided the land evenly among the remaining families, and the city began to grow. By this time, many disillusioned Mormons had left the valley and set off for Utah, so the city disappeared in the 1900s. In 1946 the camp was closed and all that was left was the old church building and some buildings on the west side of Onawa Road.

In 1934, it was sold to the State of Iowa, and in 1969, Martha Perrin sold the land on the west side of Onawa Road, from the old church building to its current location, to another state. In 1969, the property, now part of the Iowa State Park system, was bought by Martha Perry and sold by her husband John for $1.5 million.

The Preparation Canyon State Park is an excellent place for picnics and family outings. The city once stood on a field that enclosed a valley that Mormons populated many years ago as they prepared for the hereafter. Picnickers can enjoy picturesque views of the valley and the old church building on the west side of Onawa Road, as well as the nearby town of Des Moines.

In the eastern part of the park there is a nature research area and several hiking trails wind through the many streams and springs that are located in the area. These paths also lead to hiking - at campgrounds and shelters, but these can only be reserved if you contact the campground operator, the Preparation Canyon State Park Department of Natural Resources.
