About General Burnside State Park

General Burnside Island State Park is named after the widowed Civil War general, General John E.

Burnside Jr., a member of the Confederate Army. In 1864, during the Battle of Cumberland Island, he led patrols along the Cumberlands River and circled the 400-acre island in search of Confederate soldiers. Today, the waters of Lake Cumberland are calmer, but the campsites are the perfect base for outdoor adventures. The marina in the park has all the supplies needed for a great day at the lake, such as picnic tables, picnic tables and picnic chairs.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for visitors these days is the 18-hole golf course, but it is fun (and certainly not dangerous) and free, which is fun and not - dangerously - free.

The cool sea breeze and beautiful views make camping at General Burnside a great holiday, but pets are not allowed and are not kept. The campsite has a picnic area, a pool, picnic tables and plenty of space for camping and picnicking.

The General Burnside's communal pool is a great place to cool off on a hot summer day, and if you spend the day by the pool, enjoy some of your favorite treats from the concession stand.
