About Columbus Belmont State Park

National leaders once considered moving the nation's capital from Washington to Columbus, and the battle for control of the river led to the Battle of Belmont on November 7, 1861. General Leonidas Polk pitched his camp on the Kentucky-Missouri side of the river, calling the more fortified Columbus "Gibraltar West," and it was considered a strategically important place to control the Mississippi. In 1862, a Union general destined for the White House, Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, captured Gibraltar and forced the evacuation of the Confederates.

Today, the massive anchor chains used by the South to block the passage of Union gunboats and the trenches dug to protect more than 19,000 Confederate soldiers can still be seen. The farmhouse, which served as a civil war hospital, is now a museum that interprets many of the historical events of the place.

The park has a beautiful campground and activity center, and the modern hill-top complex is carved from the cliffs of the Mississippi into the surrounding forest. Enjoy a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches, a fireplace and picnic table, and a few picnic areas.

The Park Authority office is also located in the centre and has a meeting room, a conference room and a spacious activity room for all your meetings. The spacious Activity Room can accommodate up to 200 guests and the conference rooms can accommodate 50 guests each.

The campsite has 38 pitches, electricity and a barbecue, so campers can relax in the beautiful surroundings of the campsites by the river and relax with their families, friends and family members.

The central service building offers relaxation rooms, showers and laundry facilities, as well as a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches, pool and barbecue.

You can rent year-round accommodations in advance, and Columbus - Belmont is the perfect place for your next picnic. Pets are not allowed or kept in the park and must be kept in the park, so no pets.

In April 2004, Columbus - Belmont opened the first of four galleries that reinterpreted many of the stories of what happened here. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Civil War when hundreds of thousands of soldiers passing through saw a fortress comparable to Rock Gilbraltar. In April 2004, Columbus-Belmont unveiled a farmhouse that was identified as a military hospital from the Civil War, and four galleries reinterpret the many stories about what is happening here, as well as the history and history of the area.
