About Reelfoot Lake State Park

Reelfoot Lake State Park, located in the northwestern corner of Tennessee, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in North America and the second largest in Tennessee. The lake covers over 15,000 hectares, 15,000 of which are submerged and harbour more than 200 species of birds, reptiles and amphibians. Other animals are also abundant and diverse, such as deer, elk, coyotes, lynx, foxes, raccoons, turkeys and other wildlife and birds.

Cypresses dominate the edge of the lake, but many other trees and shrubs are abundant and many of them are wheelchair accessible. Reelfoot Lake State Park, home to more than 200 species of flowering and non-flowering plants, attracts botanists from across the country. It is the perfect banquet for conferences and is accessible for the disabled as well as for people with special needs such as children and seniors.

The rental costs are low and are available all year round, and the rental costs are low for small groups of up to 10 people or families with children under 5 years of age.

The adjacent visitor center will feature an earthquake simulator and a variety of audio-visual programs, including a live music performance by the San Francisco Bay Area Symphony Orchestra. Canoeing is available at Reelfoot Lake, and there is a canoe shop in the park and a boat shop on the shore. Fishing at the Reel-Foot-Lake can be possible either all year round or in the summer months except in winter.

Reel - Foot - Lake State Park is one of the largest state parks in the state of New York with a total area of 2.5 million square feet.

Bream and bluetongue fishing usually starts in May and will continue until the beginning of July.

Crappie will slow down during the hot summer months, but will become active again in September and active again in October when the water temperature cools down. The hunt for crappies can be good all winter long, but slows down in the winter months.

Yellowfish (striped jacket), or as the locals call it, is a fish that can be caught from July to September. Catfishing can also be done in the summer months, but the best time to catch large perch is from March to the end of October.

The Black Bayou Trail runs for about 2 miles along ancient Bayou and is an excellent walk for birding and wildlife viewing. The Keystone Trail is the only waterfront path that winds through the park, sometimes windy and steep, overlooking the lake and bay. Reelfoot Lake State Park offers a car tour around the lakes, and there is also an Airpark Trail on the west side of Reelsfoot, right on the shore, about one mile away.

The park also offers two-hour bus tours to observe bald eagles and other waterfowl, and guided tours are offered Monday through Sunday at 10 a.m. For the 2004 season the Eagle Tour is already booked and the car tour visits all 12 attractions.

During the winter months, Reelfoot Lake is home to up to 200 American bald eagles, and daily bus tours are offered to observe the eagle and waterfowl. Experienced naturalists offer the opportunity to study and discuss the ecology, eagles and history of the lake.

It is not uncommon to see and get extremely close to large numbers of eagles, and you can see them sitting, flying and often pulling fish out of the lake.

In addition to the varied program offered in the winter months, guest speakers are also invited to offer programs on Saturdays during this winter season.

One of the more popular programs shows a number of live birds of prey and naturalists from all over the park explain the importance of these beautiful birds. Visitors will have the opportunity to understand the differences between the different bird species in the region and their habitats.

These programs are offered several times a month and can be booked for groups before booking. From May to September, nature lovers can enjoy pontoon cruises, and the program is available for groups of four or more people for $5 per person or $10 per group for a total of $20 per day.

These excursions allow visitors to experience the beauty of Reelfoot Lake and learn about this unique area. Several times a month, sunset cruises are offered, and the full moon rising over the cypress trees is a breathtaking sight. The three-hour cruise starts daily at 9: 00 am and ends at 10: 30 am, with shorter cruises on weekends and holidays.

Special cruises can be planned for groups, and special events, such as the annual Reelfoot Lake Festival, are planned in advance.

Reelfoot Lake is a photographer's paradise, and professional photographers offer special photography workshops and guided tours of the park and other state parks in the area.

The most unusual program is the Heron Rookery in Swamp Tromp, a wet walk through a cypress swamp with large herons.

These tours are reserved for individuals or groups and are usually offered in spring, but if you want to experience nature at its wildest, you should definitely visit the Heron Rookery in Swamp Tromp during the summer months.

Enjoy a canoe tour through the wetlands in the spring and summer months, as well as a kayak tour in autumn and winter or a boat trip on the river.

Reelfoot Lake State Park is located in Lake Obion County and the park's 280 acres are divided into 10 segments located along the 22-mile coastline of Reel foot Lake.
