About Susquehanna State Park

The river itself is a lighthouse for fishermen and boaters, and history buffs will head to the restored Rock Run Historical Area. Susquehanna State Park is located on the banks of the Delaware River and offers scenic views of New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The park is home to one of Pennsylvania's most scenic rivers, the Allegheny River. It also offers a variety of hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping, fishing and hiking as well as a range of other activities.

Maryland State Park is one of the largest state parks in the United States with more than 1.5 million acres. For more information, visit the official website to learn more about the park's activities, as well as the state's history and attractions.

The western arm of the Susquehanna River bordered the route of the settlers in inland Pennsylvania, and the Delaware River to the east, the Potomac River to the west, and the Allegheny River and its tributaries.

By the end of the 19th century, the timber industry had become the most important industry in the region. In 1833, the West Branch Division Pennsylvania Canal was opened from Northumberland Lock and Haven and ran through what is now State Park.

At this time of spring, it was not unusual for the river to serve as a bank while wood floated downstream from the mills. The original land for this park was bought for flood control, but not until the end of the 19th century, during the Great Depression.

The park is located in the floodplain with a flood control levy, and Susquehanna State Park was created as a result of these flood control efforts.

Opened to the public in 1961, the park is the only recreational area along the river and is open to all residents of the Susquehanna River Valley in Pennsylvania.

Boat trips on the Susquehanna River are also offered, as are water skiing, boating, kayaking and canoeing. All motor boats must have a current boat registration and all non-motorized boats must meet the following requirements.

Picnic tables along the banks are scattered throughout the area, and picnic pavilions are available free of charge, according to the motto "first - come, first serve." Picnic pavilion can be reserved at 570 - 326 - 2500, or, if not reserved, at the Susquehanna River Visitor Center.
