About Higgins Lake State Park

The Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center is located next to the park and serves as an educational center. Located on the north shore of Higgins Lake, this park features 174 modern campsites and is located in the heart of the Great Lakes State Park system, south of Lake Erie. The proximity to Lake Michigan and the location near what was once the largest tree nursery in the world make the park attractive for outdoor activities.

The Upland Nature Trail includes a number of fitness stations and the park borders on federally managed land on the east and west sides of Higgins Lake.

Between 1933 and 1942, the Michigan CCC planted 484 million trees, spent 140,000 days fighting wildfires, and built more than 1.5 million acres of woodland and buildings. The Civil Defense Museum documents the work of the civil rights movement, which tried to get Americans back to work during the Great Depression. In addition to a variety of conservation and reforestation activities, they have been enrolled in a wide range of other activities, such as hunting, fishing, camping, hunting and fishing.

The State Park and DNR systems contain many examples of this work, such as the Civil Defense Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Michigan CCC Museum in Grand Rapids.
