About Gallatin National Forest
Gallatin National Forest in southern Montana has 24 recreational huts, open to the public for the first time in its history, and more than 1,000 hectares of open space.
Most of the huts were built at the beginning of the 20th century as field quarters for active ranger teams and shooting ranges. They were an important part of the history of the Forestry Commission and now play a new role in serving the public. US Highways 89 and 191, including the main road of the Gallatin National Forest, the Flathead River Trail, and several other trails.
