About Pirogue Island State Park
Imagine the Corps of Discovery travelling down the river and swimmers finding a great place to observe wildlife. The site is just a short walk from the banks of the River Piscataway, a popular tourist attraction in the area.
Although there is no designated hiking trail, the terrain is flat and easily accessible on foot, with a variety of hiking and cycling trails available.
At an altitude of 2,371 feet, the terrain has no formal access, so caution is required when crossing the side channel. The crossing is not recommended when water is flowing, but it is accessible from the beach. Pirogue Island State Park is located on the west side of the island, just north of New York City, at an altitude of 1,835 feet.
