About Valley of Fire State Park

Valley of Fire State Park is located on the west side of Las Vegas Valley, south of Reno, Nevada.

Valley of Fire is the oldest and largest national park in Nevada and was opened in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President George H.W. Bush.

The park is represented by ancient trees and early humans, and the valley owes its name to the ancient fire of the Las Vegas Valley, one of the main fires in the Nevada desert.

Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography, but the park offers a variety of other activities such as fishing, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking.

The park is open all year round and there are also several group areas available, as well as a variety of hiking, camping and picnic areas and picnic areas.

The Valley of Fire takes its name from the red sandstone formations that form large migratory dunes. Other important rock formations are limestone, slate and conglomerate, and the landscape today is formed by extensive erosion following complex elevations and faults in the region.

Prehistoric users of the valley fire included humans, animals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals and birds of prey.

Visits likely included hunting, food collection and religious ceremonies, but water shortages had limited the length of stay, park officials said.

Rock art left by ancient people, as well as other artifacts, can be found in several places in the park.

There are two campsites and 51 accommodation units, and each camp is equipped with shaded tables, grills, water and toilets. Each pitch is to be paid for itself and will come first, served first; there are no fees for these pitches, which are to be paid by the campsite.

A shaded area with toilets is located at the back of the campground, next to the main entrance to Valley of Fire State Park. Showers are also available in the parking lot, on the beach and in a parking lot near the entrance.

Valley of Fire State Park has three group rooms, one for adults and two for children, and a small group room for families of up to six people. There are three group rooms, each of which can accommodate 45 people, with a maximum capacity of 60 people per room and a total of 50 people in each room.

Many interesting walks are available to visitors and ask for a list of walks of different lengths, from 1 - 4 miles or 2 - 5 miles in the Visitor Centre.
