About Carlsbad Caverns National Park

The Karlovy Vary Caves National Park includes more than 100 limestone caves, which are characterized by their natural beauty and unique geological features. The park was founded to preserve one of the oldest and most important caves in the world in the Czech Republic. It comprises the largest cave system in Europe with over 100 known caves, including the largest network of caves in Central Europe and the second largest in North America, the Great Cave System.

Caves are a constant source of exploration and discovery, although they are a fragile and non-renewable resource. They are a sensitive environment that affects environmental health, biodiversity and the natural environment in general, as well as the human population.

The Karlovy Vary Cave is home to the largest population of migratory mice - the world-famous tail bats. The bat population in the park, which in some cases exceeds international boundaries, depends on the presence of the cave and its natural environment.

Lechuguilla Cave is the deepest limestone cave in the United States and contains formations and microbes that are not found anywhere else in the world.

On closer inspection, the Chihuahuan Desert reveals a complex natural process that produces an amazing variety of plant and animal life. The Carlsbad Cave National Park is the only protected part of the park in the United States and one of only a handful of national parks in Mexico. The park covers more than 1,000 square miles and is home to thousands of species of pointed plants,
animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. It offers excellent opportunities for solitude and primitive recreation, as well as access to a wide variety of wildlife and natural resources.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park preserves one of the best preserved and uncovered fossil reefs in the United States. Over millions of years, the caves and caves in the Chihuahuan Desert and the rest of Mexico have been transformed and created, a process that continues to this day.

Many plant and animal species in the park reach their highest diversity, including many reptile, amphibian, bird, mammal and bird of prey species. Managers make informed decisions to protect park resources, but parks must behave in accordance with the regulations of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This will require cooperation between the public, private sector, state authorities, private landowners, conservation organizations, state and local governments, and other stakeholders.

The park's cultural resources represent a long and diverse continuum of human use that began in prehistoric times and illustrates the many adaptations of the Chihuahuan Desert environment.

Human activities such as agriculture, mining, timber, fishing, hunting and other forms of recreation have shaped the landscape and its contribution to the rich and diverse history of the region. The park has a rich history of cultural, religious, political, economic, cultural and environmental activities.

The Park Museum, including the Park Archive, contains cultural resources that will be preserved and protected for future generations, as well as a collection of artefacts from the park's past and present.

Nancy Hultgren remembers her first visit to the Karlovy Vary National Cave Park in 1952, and subsequent visits have brought back memories of her visit in 1952. In 2002, on the 50th anniversary of her childhood journey, she began to write down her memories of all four journeys and to add to her photo collection and notes on her experiences. There is a growing affection for the park and its history, from its earliest history to its most recent history.

Civil Protection Officers (CCC) erected many of the historic buildings in the Karlovy Vary National Park. From 1938 to 1942 they dug trenches and roads, dug stones, made mud bricks, built houses, offices and rock walls and dug trench roads.

Picnic tables are available in the Karlovy Vary National Park from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays and from 1 pm to 5 pm on weekends. Further picnic tables can be set up on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm and on Sundays and holidays from 12 pm to 6 pm.

The Mesa Airlines aircraft offers passenger flights between Carlsbad and Albuquerque, and major airlines fly to San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Jose.

You can rent a car and a taxi from Karlovy Vary Airport, and the Greyhound bus line TNM - O will take you to Karlovy Vary by bus.
