About Pancho Villa State Park
On March 9, 1916, General Francisco "Pancho" Villa and his soldiers battle for control of the San Francisco Bay Area in the Battle of Pancho's Villa.
This 11-month persecution led more than 10,000 American soldiers 400 miles to Mexico and ended with the capture of Pancho's villa. Pancheso Villa State Park houses an extensive historical exhibit depicting the struggle for control of the San Francisco Bay Area and the Battle of San Mateo County.
Several buildings from the time of the raid on the villa are still standing in Columbus and the US Customs House, built in 1902, serves as a visitor center. Pancho Villa State Park is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, north of San Mateo County, California, about 30 miles south of Santa Cruz.
