About Dean State Forest

The Dean State Forest, one of the largest state forests in the United States, was founded in June 1916 and is located on the western edge of Dean County, Pennsylvania, north of Philadelphia.

The earliest history of this region revolves around the Dutch and Irish farmers who emigrated to Pennsylvania to find a better life for themselves and their families. When the land was purchased for the Dean State Forest in 1916, it was largely depopulated by trees and was used to determine the best species and planting methods. By the end of the 19th century, most of the wood in the area had been felled for locally mined iron ore, but the area was also devastated by several fires that broke out along the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad that ran through the forest.

The visible reconstruction and experimental efforts are still visible today in the Dean State Forest and other parts of the state forest.

Under the supervision of the forest administration, warehouse staff did a lot of work to improve timber, build and improve access roads and improve access roads. In the early 1930s, civilian housing was located in the forest, as well as a number of other facilities such as campgrounds, campgrounds, fire halls and other structures.

Dean State Forest offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing, horseback riding and other recreational activities. Today, Dean covers 1.5 million acres (about 2.3 million square miles) and is home to more than 3,000 acres (about 3,000 acres) of wildlife habitat.

Hunting is also a popular activity in the Dean State Forest, with more than 1,000 acres of hunting season.

Mushroom and ginseng hunting is becoming increasingly popular in the Dean State Forest, with a hunting season of over 1,000 hectares. Several small ponds are located in the forest and are used by anglers for fishing, boating and other recreational activities, as well as hunting and fishing.

Hiking is also allowed on the horse riding trails, and a 20 km long horse riding trail leads through the forest, offering users a scenic ride through the woods.
