About Mohican-Memorial State Forest

Mohican Memorial State Forest is located on the east side of the state, south of New York City.

The natural features of this area, combined with state and nearby commercial facilities, make it a popular destination for hikers, campers and visitors alike.

During the spring and autumn fire season, the main objective of Waldorf Aid is to prevent and detect forest fires on public and private land in protected areas. Mohican Memorial State Forest manages a large number of trees that are sown in nurseries, and the grubbing-up of pine plantations leads to fences, guardrails and poles. Wood products derived from harvesting, stock recovery and thinning include wood chips, wood pellets, wood, timber for construction and other wood products.

The history of forest land use is typical of eastern Ohio, and there are many gas wells and transmission lines. The acquisition of forest began in 1928 and continues to this day, with the exception of the land in the State Park.

The original forest was cleared for agriculture, but eventually erosion followed and fertility declined. The farms were abandoned and later turned back into scrubland and forest, and the original forests were replanted.

Planting trees on abandoned land was a high priority activity at the time of acquisition, and planting trees on abandoned land was an important part of the original plan for the state forest.

The majority of tree planting was carried out by the civil defence, who in the 1930s occupied the forest with camps. This led to the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the largest national park in North America.

Pine and hemlock are also native to the area, and in some unplanted areas a variety of other tree species can be found, such as oak, birch, pine, oak and pine.
