About Jefferson Lake State Park

Jefferson County's sandstone hills are part of the Appalachian Highlands that surround southeastern Ohio. The coal layer is found in sandstones and rocks formed by rotten marsh vegetation, as well as on a layer of sediment from coal mining. Sandstone Hill in Jefferson County is a natural remnant of the Appalachian Highlands that surround southeastern Ohio and is bounded by the Ohio River and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the west and east of Jefferson County, respectively. There is a layer of coal in the sandstone, which consists of rotten bogs and vegetation. A layer of coal is also found inside the sandstone rocks that form from rotting marsh leaves, like the great smoky mountains of eastern Ohio along with the Tennessee River.

A second oak and hickory forest covers the hills and valleys of the area, and there are tall oaks, pines, pines, cedars and other trees. In the sandstone hills of Jefferson County there are a large number of towering oaks.

The forest is much more than trees, although the trees are its most striking feature and attentive visitors can also enjoy a variety of other tree species such as pine, cedar and other cedar.

Wild turkeys and capercaillies are common in the hills above the forest, as are a variety of other birds such as black-legged coyotes, foxes, owls and wild boars.

The Jefferson Lake region was once home to John Logan, the famous Mingo chief whose family was massacred by his family. Natural wonders found at JeffersonLake include the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Grand Canyon, as well as many other national parks and monuments.

The incident triggered Lord Dunmore's War of 1774, and more recently the area was home to Ohio's steel industry. The natural beauty of the region and the underlying coal fields, as well as its proximity to the Ohio River, have made it a major industrial focus in recent years.

In 1934 a dam was built, in 1946 a 17 hectare lake was filled and the lake and other facilities were built by the National Park Service. In 1950, the area was transferred to the newly created Department of Parks and Recreation and Jefferson Lake State Park in the Yellow Creek Valley was developed on 962 hectares.

Jefferson Lake State Park has a number of suitable family campsites that are suitable for a family of four or more. Campers and pets are allowed on designated pitches and there are numerous camping facilities available, such as tent camping, tent huts, tent campsites and picnic tables.
Rent - one - on - reservation camping with a covered picnic table and a tent is available for $5 per person or $10 per day for two people. Covered pitches are also available for $1 per hour for one person, $2 per night for three people or $3 per week for four people and $4 per month for six people upon reservation.

A beautiful public beach offers relaxation for swimmers and sun-worshippers, and facilities include a bathhouse with showers and toilets.

Two accommodation units are available, based on the "first come, first serve" principle, and many picnic tables are located in picturesque locations around the lake. No non-motorized boats are allowed on Jefferson Lake, except for a small number of small, single-wheeled vehicles such as kayaks and canoes.

The Fernwood State Forest is located southeast of Bloomingdale on State Route 151 and the Yellow Creek State Forest north of Wellsville. The forest offers a variety of hiking trails, such as horse riding trails and trails for horse riding, as well as hiking and mountain biking trails. The house is open from June to September, and the park's main entrance to Jefferson Lake State Park is open from July to October. The Battle of Raiders marked the northernmost of the Civil War, which was fought on July 26, 1863.

The St. Petersburg Steam Mill in Algonquin, located on the west side of Jefferson Lake State Park, south of the park's main entrance, is a designated National Historic Site.
