About Little Miami Scenic State Park

With the river and wind in the wind, visitors will enjoy beautiful views of the Miami River and its tributaries, as well as the Florida Keys and the Atlantic Ocean.

Little Miami is a designated river at the federal and state levels, and Little Miami Scenic Park is located on the Miami River in Miami-Dade County, Florida, north of Miami Beach.

Dolomite shale deposits have now been discovered, and steep gorges provide evidence of the erosive forces of glacial meltwater. Little Miami Scenic Park and the many historic sites along the banks are protected by a series of winding and passing trails and the Miami River Trail. These trails lead through many of Miami's most scenic and historic sites, including Old Miami Park, Old Fort Miami Historic District and Miami-Dade State Park.

Redwoods line the banks where large blue herons live, and hemlock and Canada bee survive.

Redwood trees in Little Miami Scenic Park and Old Fort Miami Historic District survive because of their dense redwood tree canopy.

More than 340 species of wildflowers are known for the river, and all these species can be observed in the park. Birdwatchers will enjoy the large numbers of blue herons and other birds in Little Miami Scenic Park and Old Fort Miami Historic District. Shady slopes offer a variety of grasses and shrubs where visitors can enjoy wild flowers. There is a wide range of birds, butterflies, mammals, birds of prey, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.

The Little Miami River Valley is historically important to the state of Ohio, and the wooded areas are home to a variety of wildlife including birds, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey, mammals and reptiles.

Nearby is the state's largest and most famous earthwork, known as Fort Ancient. It was built by the Hopewell Indians, who inhabited the area from 300 BC to 600 AD. In recent history, this area was inhabited by Miami Indians and Shawnee. The threat from the Indians evaporated after the war of 1812, but began to attract settlers in the early 20th century due to its proximity to the Little Miami River.

Numerous mills were developed along the banks of the river, and some still stand today, such as the Clifton Mill in Yellow Springs, which is still in operation today.

Since the mid-19th century, the river corridor has been home to many of the city's most famous landmarks, including the Little Miami Hotel and the Miami River Bridge. Many of Miami's historic buildings, from the old City Hall to the old City Hall, are still found in the historic river valley.

Little Miami Scenic Park became State Park in 1979, and camping is limited for the long stretch of the way, but there is a privately run canoe rental station. Hike the long river route from the Little Miami River Trailhead on the west side of LittleMiami Park.

For more accommodations, please contact the Warren County Convention and Visitors Bureau at (937) 784-5555 or visit the park's website.

The Little Miami River offers picturesque views of the city of Miami, the Ohio River and the Great Lakes, as well as the state of Ohio.

If you plan to sail the Little Miami Scenic River in a canoe or boat, be careful, as the immense power of the river is often hidden. The river can become dangerous when the water is high, and the streams along Big Miami can be dangerous, where tree trunks and fallen trees create a strong current. Of the 1,000 miles of Ohio State rivers, nearly 86% are canoeisable, with a total length of about 2,500 feet, the small Miami River being one of them.

All boats and canoes require a current registration sticker, a tested, well-fitting life jacket, and a valid Ohio State ID card.

Fishing is permitted at all canoe access points, but a valid Ohio fishing license is required. Small rock perches offer excellent catch for anglers, and there are many small perches that can fish in Little Miami Scenic State Park that require only a current registration sticker, a certified, well-fitting life jacket, Ohio State ID card or a proper fishing permit.

There are two rest stops and one lodging available at each stop along the route; one is in Morrow and the other in Little Miami. Accommodation is available on a first come, first served basis and the number of nights is limited to one per person.

Little Miami State Park is introducing a new concept for the state's parking system along the trail corridor. This non-traditional approach focuses on a variety of activities, such as hiking, cycling, horseback riding, camping and fishing.

The corridor also offers access to canoeing on the Little Miami River, as well as hiking, biking, camping and fishing along the river. LittleMiami State Park is about 50 miles long, and the walking corridor from the park's entrance to State Park is an average of 5 feet wide. It runs through a variety of terrain, including forests, wetlands, grasslands, streams, rivers, lakes and ponds.

The rest of the way to Springfield is paved and operated by Greene County Parks and Recreation.

The developed parts of the park were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of a public-private partnership between the state and the City of Springfield. Several disused public railroad lines have been converted and include the Little Miami River, a riverside park, an amphitheater and an outdoor recreation area.

There are three state parks nearby, including a branch of Little Miami named after the city of Miami County, the state's second largest city and the largest in the country.

All three parks offer camping, hiking and fishing, and all three offer a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing and camping. Nearby is a state protected area that offers a number of unique geological and botanical features that visitors can enjoy.

The Spring Valley Wildlife Area, operated by the ODNR's Department of Wildlife, offers hunting and fishing opportunities for athletes, as well as bird watching areas and interesting excursions.

Caesar Creek also has wildlife areas for hunting, and a walk leads to a game viewing tower in the swamps.
