About Stonelick Lake State Park

Tucked away in the rolling highlands of southwest Ohio, Stonelick State Park is a peaceful retreat for visitors. The calm waters of the lake and lordly forests provide a backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities.

The remains of plants and animals that lived in the water scatter the sea floor and are buried when the lime falls to the bottom. The limestone and other sediments eventually solidify into stone and take off to reach land. By studying the rock layers of Ohio, you can find evidence that the entire state was covered by ancient seas, swamps, and swamps at various times.

The arc that forms the formation of the Appalachian Mountains in Ohio is known as the Cincinnati Arc, and the arc forms the border between Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana.

The arches became very famous and in the early 19th century attracted people from all over the world, and they attracted people from all over the country. Stonelick Lake State Park consists of several areas of the arch that have been exposed by erosion. Trilobites, brachiopods and cephalopods are excellent fossil hunters and fossils were once buried. Several areas of this arc are exposed to erosion, which has uncovered a variety of fossils, some of which date back as far as 3 million years.

Another interesting feature of the Stonelick landscape is the significant stock of sweet rubber trees. Chewing gum is usually an insignificant tree, but it dominates the forest of St. Colonelick with beech and maple trees, and the park has a large number of flying stars and many other bird species.

The area began to be settled in 1798, when the cities of Bethel and Williamsburg were founded.

Stonelick State Park is located on the eastern edge of St. Colonelick Lake, just north of the city of Williamsville.

A significant proportion of the early settlers came from Kentucky, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

During the American Civil War, there were several clashes between settlers and Native Americans in the area between St. Colonelick Lake and the Allegheny River north of Williamsville.

The conflict involved the settlement of St. Colonelick Lake and the construction of a railroad line from the Allegheny River to Williamsville. There were conflicts between the settlers and the Indians in the area and the development of the national park itself.

The nearby town of Milford was born as the site of the first Methodist church in Ohio. Francis McCormick, a pioneer Methodist preacher, organized the church and the huts in his cabin at St. Colonelick Lake in the early 18th century.

The location of the Clermont border made it the first refuge for escaping slaves, and the county was also the site of one of the largest slave camps in the United States during the Civil War. In addition to being home to the state - held by slaves from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia - it is also an important subway link.

The acquisition of Stonelick State Park began in 1948, and the dam at St Colonelick Creek was completed in the 1950s.

Today, the facility is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the ODNR and offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities. This beautiful park was created to provide a haven for Ohio athletes as well as a recreation area for hikers, mountain bikers, kayakers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
