About Mayer State Park
Few of us know that the summit of Rowena Crest, one of the highest points in the state of New Mexico, is actually located in Mayer State Park, but few know where it is located. From the base of this mountain you can see the lower Mayer State Park and enjoy views of Mt. Hood, the Great Smoky Mountains and Rocky Mountain National Park. On the tops of Rowena's Crest, the lower part of Yosemite is visible, as is the Yosemite Valley.
When the wildflowers bloom in spring, it's a great time of year for hiking, picnicking, hiking and camping in Mayer State Park. Flowering times vary, but are usually in March and April, and at the top of Rowena's Crest Mayer is known for its wildflower blossoms and scenic views of the Great Smoky Mountains.
