In northern Bucks County, the park also serves Lehigh, Northampton and Philadelphia counties.

The 5283 hectare Nockamixon State Park is surrounded by the 1450 hectare Lake Nocksam Dixon.

This forest and field park is located in a rapidly developing area in the northern part of Bucks and Montgomery counties, north of Philadelphia.

Native American sites were documented in the park area, and Nockamixon encounters Native American and Indian languages.

The park was proposed, developed and officially opened in December 1973 by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DNR) and the State of Pennsylvania. Due to the main stream flowing into Lake Nockamixon, it was renamed "Nock amixon State Park" by the State Geographic Board in 1972 because it is located near the state park system.

All cottages are equipped with electric heating and have changing rooms, showers, toilets and other amenities, as well as access to the swimming pool. The pool complex includes two pools, a sauna, two hot tubs, three saunas and two cabins. Unless otherwise stated, there is no admission and the swimming pool is operated by a concession and is open all year round in fine weather.

The park offers environmental education and interpretative programs that explore a variety of ecological and ecological topics. Special programs can also be organized by Boy Scouts, churches, civil and private groups, and can be organized by the Nockamixon State Park Board of Trustees, the park's Board of Directors, or local organizations.

Programs are available from April to October, but advanced planning and group programming is required. Further information is available from the environmental education officer at the park office.
