This 85-acre state park is dominated by an 885-foot ridge that separates Kreutz Creek Valley from East Prospect Valley. The view offers spectacular views of the Susquehanna River Valley, and the view from the top of this ridge extends over 1,000 feet.

Samuel S. Lewis donated a 35-acre farm to the Commonwealth in 1954, and Samuel S. Lewis State Park was named in his honor. The park consists of a 1,000 foot ridge, a 5 mile trail along Kreutz Creek Valley, an 885 foot ridge in Susquehanna River Valley, and a 2,500 foot ridge at the top of the ridge.

Lewis persuaded Walter Stine to sell his arboretum to the Commonwealth at a reasonable price, and Lewis persuaded him to sell his arboreum and land to them at reasonable prices.

The Commonwealth then acquired the neighbouring Almondsey Farm to complete the original park wing, and the park opened to the public on July 4, 1954.

In 1999, the Ministry of Nature Conservation and Resources acquired a further 14 hectares of land.

There are no unrestricted picnic pavilions, but you can reserve three picnic pavilions 11 months in advance by calling 888 PA PARKS (first come, first served). There is also an outdoor playground with playground, play equipment, picnic tables and picnic benches, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.
