About Codorus State Park

It is located in the city of Marburg, about 30 miles south of the city of St. Louis, Missouri. The main attraction of this park is the 1,275 hectare lake "Marburg," which has a shoreline of 26 miles.

This project, the first of its kind in the Commonwealth, was designed to meet the needs and create a public recreation area. The seizure of Codorus Creek is one of the most important environmental problems in St. Louis County, Missouri.

The company P.H. Glatfelter paid about 5.5 million dollars for the earth dam, which is the largest dam in the USA and one of the most expensive dams in the world. The dam itself is on its own property and does not belong to the park. In December 1966, the gates to the dam were closed to get the water out, but not before the gate was closed.

Originally known as Codorus Creek State Park, the Commonwealth acquired Parkland in 1953, and Lake Marburg was named after the small village of Marberg that it comprises.

The design and construction of the park was carried out by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DNR) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The main launch site, Sinsheimer Strasse, was the first project in Pennsylvania to be completed under the Global Energy Plan for Public Use. On May 9, 1970, the illuminated complex of Codorus Creek State Park, the "Codorus Center," was inaugurated. All 198 campsites close on the third Sunday in October and all 198 campsites close at the end of September.

Thirteen hikes - in places there are only tents and there are no pitches, but in each of the thirteen hikes there is one pitch, which is the only one available.

Many of the campsites have electricity hook-ups and eight pitches with electricity can be used for disabled people. A flushing toilet, a shower, toilets with flushing facilities and hot water supply are available, as are showers and toilets for children.

All camping equipment must be removed within 48 hours of returning to the park unless otherwise stated. The maximum stay at a campsite is 14 consecutive nights, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. A large swimming pool is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm and from 9 am to 7 pm, except in the summer months of July, August, September, October and November. All swimming pools have ramps for people with disabilities, but only for adults and children under 18 years.

The 1,275-hectare lake has seven boat moorings on the lake and the seasonal snack bar offers hot and cold food and drinks. The campsite is open only to registered campers, but the swimming pool is open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm, except in the summer months of July, August, September, October and November. No fee for use of the pool is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 18.

All motor boats must have a boat registration in the respective state, and all non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations in each state.

In the park there are unreserved picnic pavilions that come first, are served first and can be reserved for up to 11 months against advance payment. In this park there are two picnic tables and a picnic table and a barbecue pavilion, each with seating for 70 people.

The designated cross-country skiing area has 6.5 km of trails, which are only open on Sundays during the hunting season. Registered snowmobiles can also be used on the 5 km long route from the designated cross-country snowmobile area of the park. A 6 km long ski area and a 4 km long snowmobile area and a 2 km long cross-country ski run are also available.

During hunting season, skiers should wear neon orange and snowmobiles in red, blue, yellow, green or blue with white cross-country skis.

There are nature trails and bird watching stations, and the park offers programs from May to October. These programs include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, as well as bird watching.

Go 18 miles west on PA 216 to the park, turn right on PA and drive 3 miles into the park, then turn left on the road to another park about 4 miles away.
