About Raymond B Winter State Park

R B Winter State Park covers an area of about 2,000 hectares in the northern part of the state of New Mexico. The park is located in a shallow basin surrounded by rocky ridges covered by oak and pine forests. One of the main attractions of this park is Halfway Lake, which is filled by a hand-fed mountain stream built of sandstone.

Open all year round, the park offers a variety of leisure activities, and modern, two-story log cabins are available all year round. The cottages have a number of amenities including a picnic area, swimming pool, picnic tables and picnic areas, and access to the lake.

The cabins can be rented in double, triple, quadruple or quadruple rooms, and tenants must bring their own food, water, bed linen and other necessities. The 59 pitches can accommodate tents, caravans and campers, and each pitch is equipped with its own picnic area, swimming pool, picnic tables and picnic areas.

Each campsite is completely shaded, has electricity and has access to a picnic area, swimming pool, picnic tables and picnic areas. All campsites have electricity connections and are accessible from the main entrance of the park at the southern end of the campsite. Each place differs slightly in altitude and landscape, but is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm and on weekends from 9 am to 6 pm.

Each of the three cottages can accommodate up to four people and has access to a picnic area, swimming pool, picnic tables and picnic areas, as well as an outdoor pool.

The beach has a white sand of 300 feet and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm unless otherwise stated. Swimming at your own risk: The beach is not open during the summer months due to high tide, so swim in the water at the end of the day.

Seasonal meals and refreshments are available in the beach house and on the parking lot. The beach area includes a picnic area, changing facilities, picnic areas and picnic tables and chairs.

In the parking lot there is an easily accessible picnic area with 250 picnic tables spread throughout the park. A limited menu includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, as well as a variety of snacks and drinks.

Three separate picnic pavilions can be reserved for up to 11 months for advance payment, and the unreserved pavilion is available on the basis of "first come, first served."

Winter State Park (R.B.) offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, mountain biking, camping and fishing. Mountain biking is allowed in the park, on the trails and in some areas of the national park.

Drivers will find parking in the parking lot at the entrance to R.B. Winter State Park on the west side of the park.

This brochure also contains maps of routes of varying length and difficulty, as well as a description of the routes. The Shared Trails of R.B. Winter State Park page provides general information on the number of trails and links to information about the park's trail system.

Registered snowmobiles are allowed on park roads leading to designated trails, and on weekends, daily snowmobiling starts at 7 am, if conditions permit. Tickets are available at the main entrance of the park, the visitor center or the parking lot of the R.B. Winter State Park. Parking facilities include toilets, showers, picnic tables, a picnic area, parking, water, toilets and showers for all visitors.

Winter State Park offers a variety of environmental education and interpreting programs throughout the year. Five kilometres of park trails connect paths and roads to the surrounding state forest, and participants can take part in guided hikes and other outdoor activities such as snowshoeing, hiking and snowmobiling. Tickets and information are available at the park office or by phone at 1 - 888 - 745 - 5555.

Curricula and environmental education programs are open to students in grades 1-5, adults and families. Group programmes must be agreed in advance by telephone at the park office or by e-mail or telephone.

Throughout the year, there are various special events, including the History Day and the Winter Snow Festival, as well as various educational events for children and adults. Teacher workshops are offered for students in grades 1-5, adults and families at the park office, at the waterfalls and at the watersheds.
