About Sand Bridge State Park
Three rustic picnic pavilions embrace Seven Notch Mountain, conveniently located on the side of PA 192. This beautiful picnic spot is permeated by the sweet sound of Rapid Run birdsong. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania bought the land in 1905 and it became the first national park in the United States and one of the oldest in North America.
The Civil Protection Corps built the gazebos and toilets in the 1930s, and the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks took over the management of Sand Bridge State Park in 1978.
Rapid Run is an excellent cold water fishing operation, and the creek and its trout are stocked with more than 1,000 pounds of trout, salmon and other fish annually.
The three picnic pavilions are free of charge after the first-come-first service and the sandbridge is open to the public daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
