About Oil Creek State Park

Oil Creek State Park tells the story of the early oil industry by interpreting the history of the Oil Creek Valley and its role in the development of oil and gas in Texas.

The picturesque Oil Creek cuts through the oil and gas history of the Texas oil and gas industry from the early days of oil exploration to the present day.

The clean trout streams and wooded slopes are visible throughout the park today, but there is a story to tell about changing landscapes. Special attention is paid to the history of oil and gas extraction in the region from the beginnings of the oil industry to the present day.

Under normal conditions, Oil Creek is classified as a beginner's stream and offers scenic rafts, but water levels can change quickly and canoeists should check with the park authority for current water conditions.

The canoe season usually lasts from March to June, with the exception of the summer months of July, August and September, as well as autumn and winter.

It is located on the south side of the park and is the ideal place for a pleasant excursion. There is an unrestricted picnic pavilion, picnic tables and toilets are located in a central location along the cycle path. Daily use of this area has a first-come-first-served basis, which can be reserved for up to 11 months against a prepayment.
